Ace Any Test: Teacher Secrets for Success

Life is full of ‘tests’.

No one knows this better than teachers.

In this article we share two teacher secrets when helping students to ace any test!

What Factors Help Students Ace Any Test in School?

The one ultimate test question students find hard to answer is; how do I find success on any test I take in order to make my life easier.

The answers are; create a positive mindset and learn the art of communication.

Mindset and Tests

Mindset is how we view ourselves in relation to the test.

Why am I angry or upset? Am I afraid of making a mistake?

The anxiety students may feel when it comes to taking a test may be because:

1. They do not understand what the test is asking them to do.

2. They do not understand how to apply the knowledge they have.

What then is the best way to understand what is before you?

The Art of Communication and Tests

The art of communication simply means knowing when to listen and when to speak.

In order for studens to survive any test that comes their way, remind them it’s all in  how they will communicate what they know.

natural emotions

Negative mindsets around tests are real and in order to change them students must first acknowledge them.

Such mindsets among students in school may be that they feel ‘tests’ are meant to torture them because of what they don’t know.

In any situation, tests are meant to teach us; can I solve the problem in front of me.

When you enjoy taking a test, you enjoy sharing with others what you know.

So let’s start by understanding that changing mindset towards tests may help you find success.

Change you mindset on tests from being

"I am afraid of what I don’t know."

"I enjoy sharing with others what I do know".

Teacher Secrets to Helping Students Succeed on Tests

In my many years of teaching, I have found that those students who listen well, often are the ones who enjoy high marks on tests, and continue to find their success in life.

Listening is the foundation for all other forms of communication.

When we listen well, we absorb information, and so it may be that for students to find success they may need to listen more, and speak less.

So that when they do speak, people enjoy listening to what they have to say!

Other Important Tips for Teacher to Help Students Ace Any Tests

Allow students to ask for clarification: Allow students to ask you the teacher or classmates for clarification (or to explain it again) if there is something they don’t understand. This shows that you are engaged and proactive in your teaching.
